About This Training Course

This CAB-01 Open Registration Training Course is for Telecommunications, security, Data, Fire Protection and Audio visual installers to gain their Austel / ACA Licence or Open Registration.

Subjects Covered

At the end of this CAB-01 Open Registration Training Course, the student should be able to;

• Terminate Cable.
• Install cabling from socket to socket within a customer premises.
• Detail the ACA cabling license requirements.
• Describe the mandatory ACA technical standards.
• Be able to describe the composition of a Telephone Cabling System.
• Be able to install a system including all facility cabling and backbone cabling.
• Understand the features and facilities offered by Small Business Telephone Systems.
• Recognise the requirement of a Telecommunications Reference Conductor and understand the correct methods of equipotential bonding according to the ACA Technical Standards.
• Recognise and be able to update cabling records correctly.
• Be competent in testing Telephone Cabling Systems prior to hand over to the client.

Training Course Outcomes

Complete the CAB-01 Open Registration Training Course to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake work under the ACA Cabling Provider Rules. At the completion of this course you will be able to apply for your Open Registration (previously known as the Austel Licence, or ACA BCL, Base Cabling Licence)

ACMA requirements for registration:
Where cablers require experience to progress to open cabler registration the following criteria can be used to define cabling experience.
The experience of the candidate should meet the first three criteria in all cases and four of the other criteria listed.
• Experience comprises at least 600 hours of work on cabling tasks within the last

• Cabling experience was supervised by a registered cabler
• Cabling work undertaken is covered by one or more Australian Technical
• Standards, e.g. AS/ACIF S008:2006 and AS/ACIF S009:2006
• Installation of distributor systems involving a capacity of at least 20 lines
• Installation of telecommunications earthing protection
• Creation and interpretation of cable plans
• Assistance in cable testing and fault rectification
• Preparation of telecommunications cabling advice (TCA) reports for customers
• Interaction with customers
• Evidence of experience: This should be provided to an RTO, or a registrar on request,
• By a registered cabler who has supervised the candidate.
