"Did you know that depression results in half a million full working days lost every month and more than 12 million days of reduced productivity a year? Mental health issues in the workplace lead to significant productivity loss and are a growing concern for Australian employers. HR departments are often the first to be confronted with the complexities of this issue, both on an organisational as well as an individual level.
This workshop is especially designed to enable HR professionals to meet the challenge of depression, anxiety and associated disorders in the workplace. Participants will be guided through the fundamentals of mental health issues in the workplace, including an examination of prevention strategies at an organisational level, how to develop appropriate policies and procedures, and how to advise managers on addressing mental health issues with their staff."
"The workshop sessions have been designed to reflect the key characteristics of adult learning and will include the following:. * A range of training methods including presentation of background information, reflective discussion, DVD case studies of relevant workplace scenarios, DVD interviews with members of a similar industry sector discussing their lived experience of depression in the workplace. * Participants are asked to reflect on their own experiences in the workplace (or in their personal lives) with facilitated discussion regarding what is helpful and not helpful when approaching someone at work they may be concerned about. * Most participants attending the session have already worked with or managed someone with a mental health condition and often have some specific questions they want addressed. The flexibility and experience of our accredited facilitators will enable this to happen where appropriate."
"At the end of this workshop, participants should have the skills and confidence to address mental health issues in an organisation and have tangible strategies to introduce when they return to the workplace including: * increased awareness about depression and anxiety disorders * understanding the relationship between mental health and the workplace * skills to advise managers on addressing mental health issues with their staff * identification of key principles to consider when managing a staff member with a known diagnosis of depression or anxiety * strategies to address mental health issues at an organisational level from perspectives including prevention, awareness and early intervention."
"Who should attend? * HR professionals across all levels * OH&S professionals * Injury management advisers"
